Here Are The 5 Most Important Tips To Improve Your English

#1 Learn new words, every day

Take sticky notes, write the name of everything in your home and paste it on the right thing. While you are walking, running, or driving, imagine the names of the things you come across in English. Set a specific goal (ex. To learn 5 new words in English every day), and imagine that after only 1 year you will know almost 2 thousand new English words! Use a dictionary, start talking with your friends in English, and probably one of the most important tips is to start thinking in English. In this video, you will learn 400 words for everyday life.

Did you know? Knowing 4,000 to 10,000 words identifies someone as an advanced language speaker while knowing more than 10,000 words labels them as a fluent or native speaker.

#2 Learn contractions and idioms

American English almost always uses contractions. Here are some examples of contractions:

  • cannot = can't

  • will not = won't

  • I am = I'm

Besides, there are a lot of other contractions that are widely used in everyday speech:

  • want to = wanna

  • give me = gimme

  • going to = gonna

You should practice contractions and incorporate them into your spoken English as well. You'll sound more fluent.

English idioms and proverbs are an important part of written and spoken English. To sound more fluent you need to learn common idioms and expressions of American English and practice them in your speech, especially in informal settings. #3 Speak slower than usual

This tip may sound a bit strange but if you try it, you will see the difference. There are many languages that are spoken at a faster rate than the English language, e.g. Russian, Spanish, Chinese, and Hindi. If you try to speak English at the same speed as those languages, then native speakers may not understand you, and you will need to repeat yourself. So you should slow down a little bit when speaking English and increase your pauses between words. Surely practicing this tip will help your English sound more native.

#4 Read a lot and read out loud

Start reading your favorite novel in English, and don't be shy to read it out loud. It will help you to practice pronunciation and to remember new words. Don't forget to practice at least 5 new words every day! If you don't like to read then find podcasts or listen to American songs.
